Each month, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be providing a free image for use on your smartphones, tablets, computers, and your social media platforms, highlighting the many different natural resources the Land of Lincoln has to offer.
This pair of Great Blue Heron were photograped at Hidden Springs State Forest. The Great Blue Heron is the largest North American Heron and stand nearly 4 feet tall, and have a 72-inch wingspan. They often nest in groups called rookeries and can be seen throughout Illinois.
