Fall into Wolf Lake Week includes a variety of events for all ages September 13-20
CHICAGO A seven-day Autumn Outdoor Expo showcasing a variety of events will be held Sept. 13-20 at William W. Powers State Recreation Area, 12949 Avenue O in Chicago. Outdoor activities from family bike rides to urban gardening demonstrations will be offered by area organizations.  Events and activities will be based at the new Visitor Center and park grounds.

The Kick-Off Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 13 will be held from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. and will feature a Family Fun Bike Ride.  Festivities conclude with a dedication of the new Visitor Center on Saturday, Sept. 20 and the unveiling of a new guidebook: Explore the Millennium Reserve and Greater Calumet Region: A Natural and Cultural Guide to the Region from Bronzeville to the Indiana Dunes. The guidebook is free, and a limited number of copies will be available Sept. 20. Copies also can be downloaded from www.MillenniumReserveGuide.org.

Millennium Reserve is a transforming region with thriving commerce, communities, and wildlife in the Calumet and southeast Chicago lakefront areas. The Reserve involves dozens of local partners like those involved in Fall into Wolf Lake Week, whose projects will help realize the regions transformation.  Visit: http://www.millenniumreserve.org/

Outdoors enthusiasts have a whole week to get outside and enjoy the early fall weather while learning more about the Millennium Reserve initiative and the outdoor opportunities to be found in their own backyard, said Illinois Department of Natural Resources Deputy Director Michael Howard. With a great lineup of activities for people of all ages, there is literally something for everyone to enjoy.

William W. Powers State Recreation Area was acquired by the State of Illinois in 1947 and now encompasses 580 acres, 419 of which are water.  The park is located on Wolf Lake and offers a variety of outdoors recreational opportunities.  For more information on Illinois State Parks, visit: http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/recreation.
