Visitors Invited to Special Extended Tours of the Dana-Thomas House in Springfield
Tours are Part of the 2018 Frank Lloyd Wright Trail in Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Visitors planning to experience the architectural and historical beauty of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dana-Thomas House in Springfield are invited to take extended interpreted tours of the landmark residence this spring, summer and fall.

“In association with the Illinois Office of Tourism’s promotion of the Dana-Thomas House as part of the Frank Lloyd Wright Trail here in Illinois, these special tours of the Dana House will help bring Wright’s brilliance to life,” said Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Wayne Rosenthal.  “We are delighted to welcome visitors from all over the globe to this showcase of Frank Lloyd Wright’s genius.”

In 1902, Susan Lawrence Dana provided Wright with the opportunity to design a large home that was to be used as a space for entertaining and as a meeting place for organizations and charities.

The 12,600-square-foot residence has an extraordinary collection of Wright-designed art glass in windows, interior doors, bookcases, and lamps. The house is also filled with original Wright-designed furniture. In all, each of the 35 rooms has unique character. Yet all are unified by Wright's use of interior space - rich passages of leaded glass, art glass windows following a central motif, oak woodwork, built-in furniture, and rough plaster walls. The Dana-Thomas House remains a beautiful reminder of a time of elegance when attention to detail was demanded and craftsmanship and artistry enhanced human life.

The Dana-Thomas House is open for regular tours each Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and each Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
