Pere Marquette Rendezvous Sept. 12-13: Visitors can step back in time, to the days when frontier trappers met with fur traders and buyers, during the annual Pere Marquette Rendezvous reenactment festival at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton, IL on Sept. 12-13. The event is a traditional Pre-1840 Rendezvous, with buckskinned re-enactors portraying primitive traders and campers. There will be period demonstrations, black powder and longbow shoots, tomahawk throwing, camp music, and food common to days on the Illinois frontier. The public is invited and admission is free to the Pere Marquette Rendezvous, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 12 and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 13. Discover Archery: Try your hand at the ancient art of archery on Sun., Sept. 13 at Moraine Hills State Park, McHenry. Women and girls especially are encouraged to give it a try. Certified instructor Andy Ferraro and volunteers with IDNR and Friends of Moraine Hills will share safety instruction, techniques and tips. Youth Deer Permits: Resident and non-resident Illinois Youth Firearm Deer permits are available over-the-counter (OTC) from DNR Direct license and permit vendors. The Youth Deer Hunt is Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 10-12, 2015. For more information:
Public Duck and Goose Hunting Area Permits: Resident hunters may apply online for the second lottery for the Illinois 2015 Public Duck and Goose Hunting Area Permit program. The second lottery application period deadline is Sept.14 for those unsuccessful resident applicants from the first lottery, residents who didn’t apply in the first lottery, and non-residents. The third lottery application period will be Sept. 15-28. All initial applications must be made online:
Fall Wild Turkey Shotgun Permits: Hunters may apply for the third lottery for 2015 Fall Wild Turkey Shotgun permits through Sept. 21. The season dates are Oct. 24 – Nov. 1. For more information: www.dnr.Illinois.gov/hunting/turkey
Private Land Archery Deer Sites through IRAP: For the first time, the IDNR will be taking applications for archery deer hunting on private land through the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP). Archery deer hunting sites are available through the month of October in seven counties: Fulton, Greene, Lee, Macoupin, Monroe, Sangamon, and Schuyler. Applications are available by emailing dnr.irap@Illinois.gov, by stopping by the IDNR office in Springfield during regular business hours, or by downloading the form from the IRAP website at: www.dnr.illinois.gov/conservation/IRAP. If the hunter is under the age of 18, they must have a supervising, non-hunting adult with them. Applications must be received at least two weeks before the start of the time period being applied for (Oct. 1-15 or Oct. 16-31). Successful applicants will be notified by mail approximately 10 days before the beginning of their selected hunt date. Each participant will receive a map, driving directions and an IRAP site permit. Controlled Pheasant Permits: Hunters can apply online now for 2015-16 Illinois controlled pheasant hunting opportunities available at 18 IDNR sites. Fourteen of the sites are operated by the IDNR, while four other sites are managed by concessionaire T. Miller, Inc. ICF Gala and Hall of Fame Ceremony: Make plans to attend the annual Illinois Conservation Foundation Gala on Thurs., Sept. 24 at the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, Illinois. The gala will feature induction of the Class of 2015 of the Illinois Outdoors Hall of Fame: Elizabeth Bramsen, Fred Keck and Chad Pregracke. Proceeds from the gala will help “turn screen time into green time” by supporting youth conservation education. ICF 2016 Calendar: The Illinois Conservation Foundation’s annual Illinois wall calendar is available now. Proceeds from the sale of the beautiful 2016 ICF Wall Calendar support a variety of youth education programs at the Torstenson Youth Conservation Education Center, and the traveling Torstenson Education Station. The 9x12 calendar contains stunning photography of Illinois and can be purchased for $12 through Sept. 30, 2015 ($15 starting Oct. 1, 2015). Coffeen Lake Youth Deer Permits: A drawing will be held on Sat., Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. for three youth to hunt deer at Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area during the Youth Firearm Deer Season, Oct. 10-12. The hunt will take place at the Coffeen Lake SFWA Upland Management Area. Participating youth will need to have or obtain a valid Montgomery County Youth Firearm Deer Permit. To be eligible for the drawing to hunt at Coffeen Lake, youth must send a postcard with the youth’s name, address and contact number prior to Sept. 12 to Coffeen Lake SFWA, PO Box 517, Coffeen, IL 62017. Successful applicants in the site drawing will have until Sept. 30 to obtain their Montgomery County Youth Firearm Deer Permit and provide the permit number to the Coffeen Lake site office. Archery Hunt at Frank Holten: Archery deer hunting applications are available for the special drawings at Frank Holten State Recreation Area, East St. Louis, IL. Prospective applicants can obtain an application either online at: http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/FactSheets/Pages/FrankHolten.aspx or from the site office. Site-specific applications will offer 11 weekly hunting intervals. Applicants will prioritize their hunting weeks and will be selected randomly in a lottery drawing at 10:00 a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 1. Frank Holten SRA offers approximately 300 acres of hunting area. The hunting area consists of bottomland forest habitat.
