 Hunting and Trapping Permit

  • Hunters and trappers must possess a valid Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Permit BEFORE taking or attempting to take a bobcat.  Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Permits cannot be transferred to another person.

  Methods of Take

  • People who possess a valid Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Permit may take one bobcat by hunting or trapping. People who possess a valid Bobcat Hunting and Trapping Permit may also salvage a bobcat found dead along a roadway during open seasons; such animals become part of the person's bag limit and are subject to permit and tagging requirements.

  Registration Permit

  • Hunters and trappers must purchase a Bobcat Registration Permit within 48 hours after taking a bobcat. The cost of a permit is $5.00 plus a vendor's fee.  Bobcat Registration Permits are available only at www.dnr.illinois.gov.  Bobcat Registration Permits must be purchased by the same individual who took a bobcat and cannot be transferred to another person.  Note: Purchase this permit AFTER (not before) you harvest a bobcat.  Click here to purchase.

 Tagging Requirement

  • An official CITES tag must be permanently affixed to the green hide of each bobcat (including a whole, un-skinned carcass) before it is exported outside the United States or transferred to a fur buyer, taxidermist, fur tanner, or garment manufacturer.  Unsealed CITES tags are not transferrable.  It is unlawful to possess more unsealed
  • CITIES tags than the number of green hides of bobcat in possession.
