Current Closures of DNR Sites and Areas

• Argyle Lake State Park - The shower building at Argyle Lake State Park is closed to the public until renovation work can be completed.  This is the only shower building in the campground at Argyle Lake. The structure was already undergoing roof replacement but that project is suspended. The condition of the building deteriorated during the winter months, and may pose a safety hazard.   

• Big River State Forest - Lower campground is closed - 15 camp sites

• Henderson County – Gladstone Lake, also known as Henderson County, is partially open. Facilities that are available: picnic shelter, privies, water, and a partially opened campground (approximately 10 campsites available), and shoreline fishing. Please call Big River State Forest prior to visiting Gladstone Lake – 309-374-2496
• Hennepin Canal - The Visitors Center is currently closed due to a shortage of staff.  We hope to re-open the center when positions are filled.  We apologize for any inconvenience.
  Hennepin Canal Closures: 
• The section from Lock 26 to I-80, 4.8 miles, continues to remain "Closed". No repairs have been completed on this portion of the trail. At Lock 27 just to the west of the Aqueduct 8, (Green River), there is a breach in the levee some 75' - 80' wide and 15' - 20' deep. Other portions of this trail segment are not completely washed out, but eroded leaving "drop offs" to the point where in some spots the trail is only 4' - 5' wide.
• Due to the replacement of the I-80 bridge over the Hennepin Canal (just west of the Visitors Center), this section of trail is temporarily closed.
• The wells at Lock 21, Lock 22 and Lock 24 are not working; due to budget constraints it is unknown when these will be repaired.  The only potable water available is at the Visitors Center well. 
• Illini State Park -  Sunrise Council, Wildcat Bog, and Ancient Oaks day use areas are closed until further notice.     
• Jubilee College State Park - The following areas will remain closed:  Turkey Hollow Picnic Shelter.
• Lake Le Aqua Na State Park - the swim beach is closed until further notice due to high bacteria levels.
• LaSalle Lake - Opened for fishing on March 15th, 2016.   It will be open daily from 6 a.m. - sunset (Hours may be adjusted due to staffing issues;  visitors should call ahead 815-357-1608 to confirm operating hours).  All fishermen must be off the lake by closing time each day.  Visitors are also reminded the LaSalle Lake is a perched lake and can become turbulent during windy or inclement weather; please be aware of the lake conditions at all times.  There is a wind warning system at LaSalle Lake.  It is located on the tip of the internal dike that extends from the west shore.  When the light of the wind warning system is flashing, no boats are to be launched and boats on the lake should find calm water and get off the lake when safe to do so.
• Lowden State Park - The tarp and scaffolding covering the Blackhawk statue have been removed, however, renovations are continuing. 
• Lowden State Park - The concession is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
• Marseilles State Fish and Wildlife Area - Closed to hunting and access January 15, 2016.  Reopens for hunting September 1, 2016. Due to the Illinois National Guard's training needs Marseilles State Fish and Wildlife Area will be closed to hunting Wednesday October 19 and Thursday October 20 in addition to Friday, Saturday and Sundays throughout the month of October
• Pekin Lake – is closed to all vehicle access due to road deterioration, walk-in access is allowed
• Rock Island Trail – The trail is closed from Mile 13.4 to Mile 13.9. This closure is located approximately 2.5 miles North of Princeville in Peoria County. The trail is closed to all traffic from Wyoming (Mile 20) to the Spoon River bridge (Mile 22) and from mile 22.75 to Mile 23.5; both of these closed areas are between Wyoming and Toulon.  The trail is closed from Streitmatter Road (mile 12.2) to County Line Road (Mile 13.8) between Wyoming and Princeville.    
• Starved Rock State Park -  All areas are open.

• Des Plaines State Fish & Wildlife Area –  The Class "C" Campground will be closed indefinetly. 
• Goose Lake Prairie – Goose Lake Prairie Visitor Center may be closed on weekends due to staffing, please call to verify hours of operation.
• Heideke Lake - The seasonal closing of Heidecke Lake to fishing for waterfowl season will begin after Oct. 4, 2016.
• I&M Canal – The trail is closed due to a structural collapse between Gebhard Woods State Park in Morris east to Calhoun St.  We advise that bikers and walkers use the city streets to "go around the block" to bypass the closure.  The I&M Canal State Trail between the Buffalo Rock Access (west of Ottawa) and Utica is only partially opened. Trail users can only go up to the point of the washout. At that point, they will need to return in the same direction they came. 
• Kankakee River – Boat Launch at Area 9 is closed due to high water. The biketrail under Warner Bridge is closed due to high water.  IDOT closure of the bridge on Rt. 102. The visitor center is closed until further notice. Boat launches may intermittently be closed due to high water.  Some of the restrooms may be closed due to maintenance issues. Potawatomi & Chippewa Campgrounds will be closed for the 2016 season due to improvement projects. The main park closes at 8:00 PM. Equestrian campground has no water available. Reservations on ReserveAmerica.com are highly recommended. IL Route 102 in front of the park entrance will be closed March 1st - September 30th, 2016.

• Clinton Lake State Recreation Area –  The dock at West Side boat access is closed pending repairs. Camping, shower buildings, water hydrants and dump stations are open.   North Fork fish cleaning station is closed indefinitely. Mascoutin/Main Park fish cleaning station is temporarily closed pending water line repairs.   The beach is closed for the season and Boondocks Grill & Bait Concession will close after September 25th, 2016 for the season.
• Eagle Creek State Park –  Camping and showers are available for the season . The fish cleaning station is open and all trails are open, weather dependent. The golf course is open for the season.
• Fox Ridge State Park –    Hurricane Pond is closed to fishing until further notice due to extreme fish kills from the harsh winter conditions in 2013/2014. The horse trail is open for the season. Nature's Corner is temporarily closed with a bridge out on Acorn Avenue affecting 1/2 mile of trail. Due to damage from a fallen tree, the Monkey Bars and Hand Walk Bar are closed on the fitness trail until further notice. Camping and showers are available for the season. The Brick Pavilion and Cabins are now open. 
• Hidden Springs –  Big Tree Trail is closed indefinitely due to a large fallen tree from storm damage. Oak Ridge Hiking trail is closed indefinitely due to a bridge washout. Hickory and Sassafras ponds are closed to fishing until further notice due to extreme fish kills from the harsh winter conditions in 2013/2014. Water hydrants and class C camping are open for the season. 
• Kickapoo –   All campground loops are open.  Kickapoo Landing and Boat Concession is open.  The shower buildings, water hydrants and dump stations  are open for the season.  Pond 6 area road is closed indefinitely.
• Lincoln Trail Homestead – The day use access road is now open. Water is on  and restroom facilities are open for the season.
• Lincoln Trail State Park - The restaurant/concession and bait shop are open. The Class A campground, water and showers are open for the season. Primitive camping is available year around.
• Middle Fork SFWA –    The horse trails and campgrounds are open for the season.  Water is available. Call ahead for trail and camping conditions prior to visiting 217/442-4915. 
• Moraine View State Recreation Area –  The beach is now closed for the season.  The main and primitive campgrounds are open as well as the dump station.   The equestrian trails and horseback camp are open. Timber Trails Horse concession and Old Orchard group camp are closed indefinitely. Gibson's Concession is open Wednesday - Sunday.
• Shelbyville –    Early Canada Goose and Early Teal season is now closed.    The following ponds are now open for fishing; Elder, Johnson and Wood Duck Ponds. Oathout Parking Lot access area is closed until further notice.  Baine Hill Access is now open.
• Spitler Woods –  The small walk bridge on Exercise Trail is temporarily closed pending repairs. The park entrance is open to the public for trail access where accessible by foot. Shelter reservations dates are available beginning April 1st (shelters are closed November 1st through March 31st annually). Water is  on for shelters and restroom facilities are open for the  season. Twisted Sister Bridge area is currently closed to the public for renovations - re-opening TBD.
• Walnut Point State Park – Pleasant View Shelter is closed pending roof repairs. The Concession, camping and shower building are open for the season.
• Weldon Springs State Park – The campground dump station and all water hydrants are now open for the season, showers are open with hot water. The concession boat rental and restaurant is currently closed. Black Locust Group Camp is closed until further notice. Beaver Dam Trail is currently closed due to a foot bridge wash out.  A collapsed footbridge on Lakeside Trail, just South of the campground is closed indefinitely. 
• Wolf Creek State Park –  The Wolf Creek Beach is closed for the season. Camping is available and the fish cleaning station is open. The horse camp and trails are open for the season. The Wolf Creek horse concession is closed.

 
• Beaver Dam State Park –  The Concession area is closed until further notice.  The RV Dump station is open in a limited capacity.  Dumping is possible without rinse-out capability.
• Eldon Hazlet State Park - The Osage Youth Group Area and campsites 5, 105, 111, 170, 302, 311, 312 and 325 are currently closed due to hazardous trees that need to be removed.  Allen Branch fish cleaning station is closed due to flood damage.  Loop 1 of the Cherokee trail is closed due to storm damage.  Trees fell on two foot bridges, causing extensive damage.  Campsites 142 and 154 have been closed and will reopen once extremely hot weather passes. The archery range is open but targets are not available for use.  The range can be used by supplying your own target in the designated area.  Peppenhorst Boat access is closed due to high water levels.
• Fall Creek Rest Area –  Visitors are reminded to take all litter with them.
• Frank Holten State Park –  The Lighthouse Restaurant is open for business, offering a Friday Fish Fry as well as a Sunday Brunch.  Call (618) 398-9958 for days and hours of operation.
• Horseshoe Lake State Park (Madison County) - the Bend Road area is closed.
• Illinois Caverns – Site is closed due to White Nose Syndrome. Closures will be reviewed quarterly. Complete details has been listed in separate closure notice.
• Jim Edgar Panther Creek - The 9 mile and 6 mile loops of the equestrian trails are open, but the East and West arms of the 11 mile trail are closed until further notice. The office will be closed on Sundays and Mondays until further notice.   Please call the office for additional trail updates 217-452-7741
• Pere Marquette State Park –    ​Please contact the Visitor Center at 618-786-2555 for further updates. The Visitor Center hours of operation are Monday thru Saturday 8:30am - 4:00pm.  Approximately 125 yards of Sam Vadalabene bike trail is closed and barricaded, due to the collapse of a Windsor retaining wall. The site has been cleaned and debris removed; however, the soil and wall are unstable. 
• Sand Ridge State Forest - All campgrounds and  day use areas are open. Please call the office for daily trail updates after 9am:  309-597-2212 
• Sangchris Lake  - Cabin 30 is closed and will remain closed for the 2016 season. 
• Siloam Springs - the Concession area and boat rentals are currently closed until further notice

• Beall Woods - Ridgway Trail is currently closed due to water over the crossing.
• Fort Massac – The 1802 American Fort will be closed to the public until further notice.
• Giant City State Park – Trillium Trail is temporarily closed for maintenance. The shower building in the Equestrian campground is closed. 
• Golconda Marina –  Rauchfuss Hill is currently closed.
• Horseshoe Lake - The East Side Campground is currently closed due to a water leak. 
• Newton Lake – The mountain bike trail is closed indefinitely due to washed out areas.​ 
• Tunnel Hill Trail - Drinking water is currently not available at New Burnside, Stonefort or Carrier Mills.
