Illinois DNR routinely monitors river conditions throughout the state, so check back often for the latest updates.
7/29 Update: The U.S. Coast Guard reports restrictions on Illinois River recreational vessel traffic have been lifted from Mile Marker 0-187. Boaters should be alert to an increase in debris in the river and maneuver as needed. Towboat operators should use caution and minimize wake where possible from MM 0-187.
Boaters should be aware that the U.S. Coast Guard may also close portions of federally navigable waterways to recreational boating for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to: construction projects, oil spills, extreme high water and others. In addition to reviewing closures posted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, please consult the U.S. Coast Guard Web page here: http://homeport.uscg.mil/umr
for closures on the Illinois River from mile marker 0.0 (Grafton, IL) to 187.0 (Lacon, IL). For information about conditions from mile marker 187.0 to Lake Michigan, call the USCG Calumet Harbor Station at (773) 768-4093..
