Illinois State Museum Director Elected as Association President
SPRINGFIELD – Dr. Bonnie Styles, Director of the Illinois State Museum system, was elected for a third term as the president of the Association of Science Museum Directors (ASMD) at their 2013 Annual Meeting in Dallas-Fort Worth. ASMD promotes the scholarly and educational role of science museums around the globe. The current membership includes museum directors from private, state, and national natural history museums, science centers, and general museums across the United States and Canada.

As president, Dr. Styles works closely with other museums and museum organizations to promote and advocate for scientific and multi-disciplinary research, collections, exhibitions, and educational programs that help museums preserve and share natural and cultural heritage.

Dr. Styles is based at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield and oversees the Museum’s six facilities across the state. The Illinois State Museum, an office of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, inspires people of all ages to discover and care about natural and cultural resources and heritage.
