SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Marc Miller today announced Randy Smith of Havana, Illinois has joined the IDNR as Wetland Program Manager in the Division of Wildlife Resources.

“Management of the state’s wetland wildlife program is critically important to the Department’s efforts to protect waterfowl habitat and improve public migratory waterfowl areas within the state,” Miller said.  “Randy Smith brings a wealth of experience to the job and we’re delighted to welcome him to our team.”

Randy Smith comes to the IDNR from the Illinois Natural History Survey, where he served as a waterfowl scientist at the INHS Forbes Biological Station in Havana.  A native of northern Wisconsin, Smith was graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he majored in wildlife and biology, and earned a Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he studied waterfowl habitat rehabilitation and spring migration ecology.

Since joining the Illinois Natural History Survey in 2007, Smith has studied waterfowl migration and feeding ecology, shorebirds, and wetland management and ecology.
