IDNR Proposes Waterfowl Season Dates and Zone Lines for 2011-2015
Natural Resources Advisory Board Endorsed Proposals at July 13 Meeting
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Division of Wildlife Resources is recommending duck and goose season dates and waterfowl zone lines for the next five years.  The proposals were developed based on an extensive review of scientific data, waterfowl hunter survey results, and comments and survey results following a series of public open house meetings last month.

The proposals were reviewed and endorsed by the IDNR Natural Resources Advisory Board at its meeting on July 13 in Springfield.

The IDNR Division of Wildlife Resources’ five-year proposal – which is predicated on approval by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of an option for Illinois to add a fourth waterfowl zone – includes:

• A four-zone configuration including North, Central, South-Central and South zones;
• No change in the zone line between the North and Central zones in northeast Illinois;
• No change in the zone line between the North and Central zones in western Illinois;
• Use of the pre-2006 zone line between the Central and South (South-Central) zones in southwest Illinois;
• New zone lines to make provisions for the proposed South-Central and South zones;
• 60-day ducks seasons in all zones;
• 85-day Canada goose seasons in the North and Central Zones and 66-day Canada goose seasons in the South-Central and South Zones

The IDNR Division of Wildlife Resources’ proposal for 2011-2015 season dates and narratives on the proposed new waterfowl zone lines are outlined below.  To view maps of the proposed zone lines, check the IDNR website at http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/waterfowl/Pages/MapsProposedWaterfowlZoneLines.aspx
