Oakford State Habitat Area Hunter Fact Sheet

LOCATION: The Oakford State Habitat Area (SHA) is located 2 ½ miles northeast of Oakford in Menard County. Oakford SHA can be reached from Ill. Rte. 97 by turning east on County Road 1400N at the north edge of Oakford and north on County Road 300E (Duncheon Street).

DESCRIPTION:

Total acres: 115 Huntable acres: 115 Timbered acres: 10

The Oakford SHA is characterized by relatively flat abandoned cropland that has been planted to native grasses. There is a narrow band of timber along the Sangamon River and some willow growth in the old oxbow portions of the fields.
