In celebration of the 50th year of 1964 Wilderness Act, the Shawnee Group of the Illinois Sierra Club is hosting hikes in wilderness area of southern Illinois. In 1990 eight wilderness areas were dedicated in Illinois, one at Crab Orchard NWR, seven in Shawnee National Forest, USDA.
Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge's Wilderness Area is in Williamson and Union Counties, Panther Den Wilderness Area of Shawnee National Forest is in Union County.
Wilderness Areas have a restriction on the group size, please register by September 21 with contact person named below, and for information on meeting place and time.
Bring water and pack a lunch. Wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.
