Description: 
One of the nation's leading experts on old growth forests in the central U.S. will lead a "forest history hike" in Giant City Sate Park.  Learn about the natural and human impacts on the forest and visit a relic old-growth stand with 400-year old white oaks.

Guide is Matthew Therrell, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography and Environmental Resources at S.I.U., Carbondale.

Most of walk will be off a maintained trail and some up hill; moderate difficulty.

Meet in Makanda, Illinois at the boardwalk.
