Eagle Creek Resort Mold Assessment Completed

Report Should Assist Prospective Operators in Preparing Proposals;
Proposals for Resort Operation Now Due Feb. 5

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is extending the deadline for prospective operators to submit proposals for operation of the Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center to allow them time to review and consider the results of a consultant’s report on mold growth discovered in the lodge buildings at the resort complex last year.

Proposals for operation of the Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center are now due to the IDNR no later than 2 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 5.

In an effort to ensure public health and safety, the IDNR, working with the Illinois Capital Development Board, contracted with an environmental consulting firm (Springfield, Illinois based Sampa DAS Ostrem) to conduct a complete assessment of the presence of mold and related microbiological growth that was discovered in the lodge facility and prompted the shutdown of the facility last summer.

Details on the findings of the mold assessment are being made available to prospective operators to enable them to consider the information and the costs of mold remediation in their proposals.

The consultant’s evaluation included examination of the presence of mold in the lodge building, the likely causes, and needed remediation. A preliminary estimate of the cost of mold remediation work is $892,500.
The consultant’s report entitled Microbiological Observations and Sampling – as well as all other updated information on the resort facilities and requirements for operation of the lodge, golf course and associated facilities – are available through the IDNR web site at http://dnr.state.il.us/lodges/eagle.htm and through the Illinois Procurement Bulletin at www.purchase.state.il.us.

The Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center includes a lodge with 138 guest rooms, 10 suites with fireplaces and a private patio, a lobby, indoor pool complex, kitchen and dining facilities, lounge, conference center meeting rooms, and gift shop; an adjacent “Eagles Landing” building with eight connecting guest rooms and a second-story balcony with a lakefront view, conference area and wet bar; an 18-hole championship golf course with pro shop; a boat docking system accessing Lake Shelbyville; and, an outdoor pool with 11,000 square feet of deck space and an adjacent outdoor miniature golf course.
